Roofing

Full replacements and honest repairs across Long Island. We find the leak before we quote the roof — and if you don't need a roof, we'll tell you that instead.

A stain on the ceiling is not the problem

By the time water shows up on a ceiling it has usually been in the structure for a while, and it rarely entered directly above the stain. Water travels along rafters and decking and comes out at the lowest point it can find.

That's why we don't quote a roof off a photograph. We get on it, get into the attic where there is one, and find where the water is actually entering. Sometimes that's eighteen squares of shingle. Often it's a chimney flashing, a cracked boot around a vent, or a valley that was never lapped correctly.

The second answer costs a fraction of the first. We'd rather do the small job properly and be the people you call in ten years when the roof genuinely is finished.

What we do

  • Full roof replacement

Tear-off to the deck, replace any rotted sheathing, ice-and-water shield at the eaves and valleys, synthetic underlayment, and architectural shingle. We name the materials on the estimate rather than writing “shingles”.

  • Leak diagnosis and repair

Find the entry point first. Most leaks are flashing, penetrations, or valleys — not the field of the roof. We fix what's failing rather than selling around it.

  • Storm and wind damage

Lifted tabs, blown-off ridge, damaged flashing after a nor'easter. We document what we find so it's usable if you're filing a claim.

  • Flat and low-slope roofs

Rolled and membrane systems for extensions, porches, and dormered sections where a shingle roof can't shed water fast enough.

  • Flashing, vents and chimney work

Step flashing, counter flashing, pipe boots, and chimney sealing — the joints where roofs actually fail.

How to tell whether you need a roof

You can check most of this from the ground with a phone camera. If two or more of these are true, it's worth a look:

  • Granules collecting in the gutters or at the bottom of the downspouts
  • Shingle tabs curling at the edges or lying flat and shiny where the granules have gone
  • A stain on an upstairs ceiling, or daylight visible in the attic
  • Shingles lifted or missing after a storm, especially along the ridge or the rake edge
  • The roof is past twenty years old and you've never had it inspected
  • Flashing around the chimney that's rusted, lifted, or sealed with visible tar

On materials

Architectural shingle is the default for most Long Island homes: it handles wind better than three-tab and it lasts meaningfully longer for a modest difference in price.

Near the water we specify differently. Salt air is hard on fasteners and metalwork, and the cheapest hardware is a false economy on any house within sight of the bay.

A real number needs eyes on the house — hidden rot, decking, and existing flashing all move the price. This range gets you oriented before you call.

Questions we get asked

  • How long does a roof replacement take?

Most single-family Long Island roofs are a one- to two-day job once we start. The dumpster arrives the morning we begin and leaves when we're finished. Larger or more complex roofs — multiple dormers, steep pitch, slate or tile — take longer, and we'll tell you the honest number before you commit.

  • Do I need a full replacement or just a repair?

Often just a repair. If the field of the roof is sound and the failure is at a flashing, a valley, or a penetration, replacing the whole roof is money you don't need to spend yet. We inspect before we quote, and we'll say so when a repair is the right call.

  • Can you work with my insurance company?

Yes. For wind and storm damage we document what we find — photographs, the date of the storm, and what specifically failed — in a form that's usable for a claim. We won't tell you damage exists when it doesn't.

  • What does a new roof cost on Long Island?

It depends on the footprint of the house, the pitch, and what we find under the old shingle. Our estimate calculator will give you a range in about thirty seconds, and the written estimate after an inspection will be exact.

  • Do you clean up afterwards?

Tarps go down before the tear-off starts and a magnet goes over the lawn and driveway before we leave. Customers mention this in reviews more than almost anything else, which tells you how many contractors skip it.

  • I am writing this review not 5 minutes after David left my property. There are some businesses that still care about the work they do and actually take pride in the finished product. David from Strong Island is a dying breed.
