What will this actually cost?

Nobody wants to make a phone call to find out whether they can afford something. Move the sliders, get a range, and call us when you're ready.

What do you need?
1,800 sq ft

The footprint of the house, not the total living space. A typical Long Island cape is around 1,200 sq ft; a colonial, 1,800–2,400.

A real number needs eyes on the house — hidden rot, decking, and existing flashing all move the price. This range gets you oriented before you call.

How the number is worked out

No black box. Here’s the arithmetic, so you can check it.

  • Roofing

Your footprint multiplied by a pitch factor gives the actual roof surface, because a sloped roof is always larger than the outline of the house. That surface divided by 100 is your number of squares, which is the unit the job is priced in.

  • Siding

Perimeter estimated from the footprint, then multiplied by wall height — ten feet per story. We take 15% off for windows and doors, because you don’t side those.

  • Gutters

Gutter runs along the eaves, not the whole perimeter — typically around 60% of it. One downspout per 35 feet of run, minimum two. Height access adds to the labor above one story.

About this calculator

  • How accurate is this estimate?

It's a ballpark, and it's honest about being one. The geometry is real — the calculator works out your roof surface from the footprint and pitch, or your gutter run from the perimeter, the same way we would. What it can't know is what's under the old material. Rotted decking, failed flashing, or three layers of shingle where you expected one all move the number.

  • Why does it show a range instead of a price?

Because anyone who gives you a single number for work they haven't looked at is guessing and hoping you don't notice. The range is the honest version. The written estimate after an inspection is exact, and it's free.

  • Do I have to give you my email to see the result?

No. There's no form, no gate, and nothing to submit. Move the sliders, read the number, close the tab if you want. We'd rather you came back when you're ready than get chased by us in the meantime.

  • What's a 'square' in roofing?

One hundred square feet of roof surface. It's the unit roofers price in, so an 1,800 sq ft footprint with a standard pitch works out to roughly 23 squares of actual roof — pitch means the surface is always bigger than the footprint.

  • Why does the footprint matter more than my house's square footage?

Because a two-story house has the same roof as a one-story house of the same footprint. Living space counts every floor; the roof only cares about the outline. That's the single most common mistake people make with this calculator.
